Living TOP

In Australia, while enjoying a high standard of living is also very affordable to overseas students. But students need to be aware of the living cost of the city of their residence during the course of study nevertheless.
It is assumed that a student will require AUD$12,000 per year as living costs. The expenses will mostly be for food, accommodation, travel, entertainment, clothing and others, but it will more or less depend upon the lifestyle of the person.

Health Insurance

Health Insurance is compulsory for students coming to Australia from overseas, although there are a few exceptions. This is called Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and you are required to have this for the duration of your student visa in Australia.

Normally, the education provider will include the cost of health insurance in the enrolment fees. If the cost of health insurance is not included, the student will need to obtain insurance and show the relevant documents.

While the education provider often arranges OHSC initially, it is common for the initial period of OHSC to expire while the student is still studying. The student has the responsibility to renew the OHSC to be covered for the whole time they are in Australia.

Many students also take travel and property insurance to avoid complications when they leave their country.
Accommodation TOP

A variety of high standard student accommodation is available to suit different budgets and needs. Institutions provide students with help in finding accommodation after understanding lease and tenancy conditions. Students can arrange temporary accommodation from their native countries so that after arrival, they can plan on where and how they would like to be accommodated in the longer term. Student notice boards and newspapers often advertise rooms, apartments and houses for rent.

Home stay

It is possible for students to find out about Australian lifestyle in a natural and friendly way through home stay. This is popular with younger students and those studying short-term English courses. Meals are usually included in the cost. Single or shared rooms may be offered and the cost will vary accordingly. Self-catering home stays are also sometimes available cheaply. Institutions maintain a register of families prepared to accommodate international students during the academic year. The home stay expenses may vary anywhere from A$110 to 280 per week.

Farm stay

Farmstay offers the same services as homestay, but in a rural setting. Education institutions ensure that farmstay families are reputable and that they offer safe accommodation with reasonable standards.

Hostels

Hostels are usually run by organisations such as Youth Hostels Australia and the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) where students generally share kitchen and bathroom facilities.

Share Accommodation / Rental Accommodation

Students can often share an accommodation with fellow students. They can advertise on notice boards, websites and in newspapers. Students may have to provide their own furniture. When renting a house, apartment or bed-sitter, landlords require rent to be paid in advance and will require a security bond.The rent may range from A$50 - 170per week to A$70 – 360 per week.

Boarding Schools

There are many boarding schools where students coming from overseas can stay with food and other services included in their rent.

Campus Hostels

Understanding the needs of the students, most of the colleges have their own hostels inside the campus or in areas nearby the campus.
